He turned, and the dim light caught the hard planes of his face, the lines etched by a life I was only beginning to glimpse. My hands, usually steady when signing contracts or sketching designs, trembled as I picked up a delicate teacup, the porcelain cool against my fingertips. “I know,” I whispered, the word barely escaping my throat.
