The air grew thin, brittle as ancient parchment, as Purlis and Elara ascended the jagged path. Before them loomed the Fortress of the Eighth Gate, a titan of obsidian and iron, its battlements scraping a sky bruised with twilight. It was not a place of gentle whispers or shifting illusions, but of stark, unyielding might. A single, massive gate, forged from a metal Purlis did not recognize, pulsed with a low, resonant hum, a sound that vibrated in his very bones.

Standing sentinel before it was a figure carved from granite and resolve. Clad in armor that seemed to grow from his very flesh, the warrior’s face was a mask of weathered stone, his eyes like chips of flint that surveyed Purlis and Elara with an unnerving stillness. He carried a colossal war hammer, its head etched with runes that seemed to writhe as if alive.

“Halt,” the warrior’s voice boomed, a sound like the grinding of continents. “None pass the Eighth Gate without proving their mettle.”
