The town square, usually a tranquil haven of chirping sparrows and the gentle murmur of the fountain, was abuzz with an unusual excitement. A banner, hastily strung between two ancient oak trees, proclaimed in cheerful, if slightly wobbly, letters: “The Great Aroma Festival!” Below it, Mayor Mildred Muffin, a woman whose enthusiasm was as boundless as her perfectly coiffed silver hair, stood beaming, a microphone clutched in her hand like a precious artifact.
