First Clue Found

Mama and Pudlius find a strange symbol etched on a nearby stone, a cryptic clue. It appears to be the first step in a trail leading deeper into the woods.

The moss on the ancient stones was cool and damp beneath my paws as Mama and I traced the edge of the old well. The air here was thick with the scent of damp earth and something else, something wild and forgotten. Mama’s fur, usually so soft and comforting, seemed to shimmer with an inner light as she leaned closer to a large, flat rock beside the well’s crumbling lip. Her gentle hum, a sound I always associated with safety and stories, had taken on a different note, a questioning, curious melody.

“Look, Pudlius,” she murmured, her voice barely a breath against the rustling leaves. Her paw, with its careful, deliberate movements, pointed to a place where the stone’s rough surface seemed to have been deliberately altered.

I scrambled closer, my heart thrumming a little faster. It wasn’t just a scratch or a weathered patch. It was a mark, etched deep into the stone, a swirling, looping pattern that reminded me vaguely of the way the river bent as it flowed past the Whispering Willows, but tighter, more deliberate. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen etched into the bark of the trees or the smooth surfaces of pebbles.
