The dawn, a shy whisper of pink and gold, always found me already awake. My small hands, though still a little clumsy with sleep, were already busy. The cool water from the well splashed against my face, chasing away the last vestiges of dreams, dreams that were often filled with the hum of books and the bright glow of a future I was determined to build.
