The scent of turpentine and linseed oil, usually a comforting aroma, now hung heavy in the air of Liam’s studio, a space that felt both cavernous and intensely intimate. Sunlight, filtered through the large, north-facing windows, illuminated dust motes dancing in the air and cast long shadows across canvases stacked against the walls, some finished, others in various states of undress. Elara, her fingers smudged with charcoal and her brow furrowed in concentration, found herself sketching the way Liam held his brush, the slight tension in his jaw as he mixed a particularly stubborn shade of Prussian blue. She’d been hesitant, the ghost of her initial wariness still clinging to her, but the allure of uninterrupted artistic freedom, coupled with a growing curiosity about the man behind the artist’s mask, had been too strong to resist.

“You’re very quiet,” Liam’s voice, softened by the vastness of the room, broke through her absorption. He was standing a few feet away, a half-empty mug of coffee cradled in his hands, his gaze fixed on her.
