Chapter 4
Gales of the Crown
The O'Malleys' pursuit of the Aurae Gem is not a secret. English naval patrols, ever vigilant, are a constant thorn in their side, their frigates like predatory sharks circling their prey. The O'Malleys must outmaneuver and outfight them, their pirate flag a symbol of defiance against the King's dominion. Adding to the peril, rival pirate factions, hearing rumors of the artifact's power, begin to converge, their greed a palpable threat. Skirmishes erupt in the choppy waters, each encounter a brutal dance between survival and capture, the air thick with the roar of cannons and the cries of desperate men.
The wind, a fickle mistress, whipped salt spray across the deck of the *Sea Serpent's Kiss*, stinging Maeve's cheeks as she stood at the helm. Her grip on the wheel was iron, mirroring the resolve that hardened her gaze as she scanned the horizon. Their frigates, sleek and swift, prowled the waters like hounds scenting blood, their cannons bristling with a promise of swift, brutal judgment. They knew. Of course, they knew. The whispers of the Aurae Gem had spread like wildfire, a tempting rumour of power that drew the King’s men from their comfortable harbors.

Today, the manic tide had pulled him towards brilliance, his mind a battlefield of strategies, each one more daring than the last. "Three points to starboard, two to port. They think to box us in, the fools. They forget we dance with the waves, not against them."
Finn, a hulking shadow of muscle and fur at Maeve’s side, let out a low growl, his hackles rising as if sensing the unseen currents of animosity. His golden eyes, usually soft with devotion, were narrowed, fixed on the approaching ships. Maeve gave his thick neck a reassuring scratch, feeling the rumble of his loyalty beneath her palm. He was her anchor, her silent confidant in this tempestuous life.
