Chapter 6: The Long Road Back
Bruce is found by a police officer named Officer Marsh and taken to a hospital, where he struggles with guilt and the weight of losing everyone. After being discharged, he returns to Mabel's Diner, where Mabel offers him comfort and a place to stay. Bruce decides to go back to the factory to end the nightmare for good, finding Danny's journal that reveals a hidden weakness—the central power core. He plans to destroy it.
Bruce’s world was a haze of pain and cold. He drifted in and out of consciousness, fragments of sound and light piercing the darkness. The officer’s voice came from far away, then close, then far again. He felt hands on him, lifting him, carrying him. The world tilted and spun, and then there was the hum of an engine, the warmth of a car’s heater, the smell of stale coffee and vinyl.
He woke in a white room. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a sterile glow. A machine beeped beside him, a monitor tracking his heart. His side ached, a dull throb that pulsed with every breath. He tried to sit up, but a hand pressed him back down.
“Easy there,” a voice said. A nurse, young and tired, her face kind. “You’ve lost a lot of blood. You need to rest.”
