The air in Noah’s room, once thick with the scent of stale pizza and adolescent angst, now carried a softer, more hopeful fragrance – a subtle blend of Emma’s lavender perfume and the lingering warmth of shared silences. They sat on the edge of his bed, hands loosely intertwined, the quiet hum of the afternoon a gentle counterpoint to the steady rhythm of their breathing. The storm had passed, not just the one that had threatened to tear them apart, but the internal tempests that had raged within each of them for so long.

Emma leaned her head against his shoulder, her eyes reflecting the sunlight filtering through the window. “And I thought love was a performance,” she confessed softly. “Like I had to be this perfect version of myself, always strong, always put-together. Because if anyone saw the cracks, the real me, they’d run.” She sighed, a sound of release. “It was exhausting, trying to keep up the act.”
