The weight of loneliness had settled over Noah like a shroud, heavy and suffocating. Each day at school felt like a replay of the last, a monotonous cycle of avoiding eye contact, feigning disinterest, and wrestling with the hollow ache in his chest. Emma was a ghost, a painful reminder of what he’d lost, what he’d broken. He’d retreated, pulling the familiar walls of his guarded heart even higher, convinced that solitude was the only safe harbor. But the silence was deafening, and the emptiness was a constant, gnawing companion.

He found himself at Liam’s house, the familiar scent of old books and brewing coffee a comforting balm. Liam, ever the anchor in Noah’s turbulent sea, was sprawled on the couch, a worn guitar resting across his lap. He strummed a soft, melancholic chord, his brow furrowed in concentration. Noah sank into the armchair opposite him, the worn leather creaking under his weight. He’d come seeking distraction, perhaps a shared silence, but Liam’s perceptive gaze seemed to see right through his carefully constructed facade.

“Rough day?” Liam asked, his voice a low rumble, not prying, but simply acknowledging.
