A wide, babbling river stands in her way. To cross, Paulinha must answer the riddles posed by the shimmering River Sprites, testing her wit and quick thinking.

The forest floor, once a familiar tapestry of moss and fallen leaves, now gave way to the insistent murmur of water. Paulinha, her satchel bumping against her hip, pushed aside a curtain of ferns and gasped. Before her lay not a gentle stream, but a wide, boisterous river, its surface a thousand diamonds dancing under the dappled sunlight. It churned and frothed, a silver ribbon unspooling through the green expanse, and it seemed to sing a song of impossible passage.

“Oh, bother,” Paulinha murmured, her adventurous spirit momentarily dimmed by the sheer breadth of the obstacle. The Sunstone, her only hope for freeing Luna, felt impossibly far away now, separated by this watery expanse. She’d faced tangled paths and giggling tricksters, but a river? This was a new kind of challenge. She edged closer to the bank, the spray misting her face, bringing with it a cool, clean scent of water and something else… something ancient and playful.

As if summoned by her gaze, the water’s surface began to shimmer with an unnatural luminescence. Tiny, iridescent figures, no bigger than dragonflies, began to emerge from the depths. They were sprites, their bodies woven from mist and light, their wings beating with a silent, rhythmic flutter. They darted and twirled, leaving trails of phosphorescence in their wake, their laughter like the tinkling of tiny bells. These were the River Sprites, the guardians of this watery divide.
