The air crackled with an energy that had nothing to do with the usual pre-competition jitters. It was a palpable hum, a low thrum that seemed to emanate from Mark himself. He stood at the starting line, a confident smirk plastered on his face, his muscles bulging with an unnatural definition. The ‘Burning Buff,’ as the Fitness Ghost had so ominously named it, pulsed beneath his skin, a visible testament to the grueling, spectral training he’d endured.
