I had always been able to coax objects from the ether, a simple trick of will and focus. A key to slip through a lock, a barricade to slow a pursuer, a whispered comfort in the form of a small, smooth stone. But this… this was different.

The alleyway, a familiar labyrinth of shadow and refuse, had become a stage. Thorne’s men, their faces grim masks of determination, had cornered me. The metallic tang of their weapons, the cold glint in their eyes – it was a symphony of dread I knew all too well. But this time, fear was a distant hum, drowned out by the roaring torrent of power surging through me. It wasn't just a surge; it was a deluge, a force that threatened to sweep me away.

They advanced, their boots echoing on the grimy concrete. I could feel their intent, their cold, clinical purpose. Capture. Contain. Erase. My own purpose, however, was far more urgent. Liam. His face, etched with a confusion that had bloomed into a dawning fear as he’d witnessed the impossible, flashed behind my eyes. I had to get him away. I had to protect him from this.
