The air in the abandoned warehouse tasted of dust and decay, a familiar scent that usually settled my nerves. It was a place of shadows, of secrets, a sanctuary of sorts where the hum of the city outside felt like a distant, irrelevant dream. But tonight, the familiar comfort was laced with a sharp tang of fear, a cold dread that coiled in my gut. Agent Thorne. His name was a whispered curse in the resistance, a phantom that haunted our every move. And he was here.

Marcus had sent me to retrieve a package, something vital for their operations, he’d said, his voice tight with urgency. He’d assured me the location was secure, a forgotten corner of the city where even the omnipresent eyes of the government wouldn't pry. He’d been wrong. Terribly wrong.

The crunch of boots on broken glass echoed from the entrance, each step a hammer blow against my racing heart. I pressed myself deeper into the gloom, my breath catching in my throat. My veins throbbed beneath my skin, a faint, telltale luminescence that I fought to suppress. It was a constant battle, this control, a dance on the edge of exposure. Tonight, the dance felt more like a desperate struggle for survival.
