The metallic tang of fear was a constant companion, a phantom taste that coated my tongue even in the quietest moments. But tonight, it was different. Agent Thorne’s voice, a low, gravelly rumble that had haunted my steps for weeks, echoed in the confines of the abandoned warehouse, amplified by the cavernous space.

"What else would you be doing?" My voice, usually steady, trembled. The faint luminescence beneath my skin, a telltale sign I always tried to suppress, pulsed with my anxiety. I could feel the familiar warmth, the subtle thrum of power waiting to be unleashed, but against Thorne, against whatever he represented, it felt like a child’s spark against a wildfire.
