The humid air of June clung to them like a second skin, a cloying embrace that mirrored the unease settling in their chests. They stood at the edge of the school grounds, the jubilant shouts of younger students a distant counterpoint to the heavy silence that had fallen between Cyenrhi, Jhrean, Roxzie, and Loreanzce. The shared dream, a shadowy tapestry woven with threads of unease and impossible landscapes, had become a constant, unwelcome companion. Its tendrils had tightened their grip, pulling them into a vortex of shared anxieties, and the 'what if's' that had once been mere whispers now roared like a storm.
Cyenrhi, ever the observer, traced the faint scar on her wrist, a phantom ache mirroring the phantom pains that sometimes visited her in sleep. Her mind, a restless sea, churned with possibilities, each wave crashing against the shore of her composure. "It's… it's happening again," she murmured, her voice barely a breath. The dream, the same unsettling sequence of fragmented images and hushed warnings, had visited her for the third night in a row.
Jhrean, his usual playful glint subdued, met her gaze. His eyes, pools of a shade she couldn’t quite decipher, held a flicker of something that looked like worry. He reached out, his fingers brushing hers as if by accident, a gesture so familiar yet so charged. “The one with the… the shifting colors?” he asked, his voice a low rumble.
