Each friend faces a personal decision. Cyenrhi must choose between her anxieties and trusting Jhrean. Jhrean must decide how much of his secret to reveal. Roxzie must decide if her loyalty outweighs her own desires, and Loreanzce must trust his artistic intuition.
The air in Cyenrhi's room was thick with a silence that hummed, not with peace, but with the restless energy of unspoken questions. Moonlight, sharp and unforgiving, sliced through the gap in the curtains, painting stark stripes across the floor. Her desk, usually a battlefield of textbooks and scribbled notes, was eerily still. Tonight, the ‘what if’s’ felt less like distant constellations and more like a suffocating fog, pressing in on her from all sides.
She traced the rim of her teacup, the ceramic cool against her fingertips. Jhrean. His name was a constant, a soft ache in the periphery of her thoughts. He was a riddle wrapped in an enigma, his laughter a bright, disarming sound that could melt her anxieties for a fleeting moment, only for them to return, sharper than before. His actions were a language she couldn’t quite decipher – a shared glance that lingered a fraction too long, a hand that brushed hers, a quiet insistence that she remember this or that. And then there were the whispers, the teasing of their friends, painting a picture of him with Roxzie that gnawed at her with a familiar, corrosive doubt.
"It’s just… the future," she murmured to the empty room, her voice a fragile thread. "It feels like a cliff edge, and I'm so afraid of stepping off."
