The Osvald planet offered no quarter. Its sun, a malevolent eye in a bruised sky, beat down relentlessly, baking the ochre dust into a cracked, thirsty earth. Twisted, skeletal trees clawed at the heavens, their branches bearing no sign of life, only the desiccated husks of forgotten seasons. For the band of unlikely exiles now huddled in the shadow of a jagged, obsidian outcrop, every breath was a struggle, every moment a test of endurance. They were a mosaic of ages and origins, thrown together by a cataclysm they barely understood, their only commonality the desperate, gnawing desire for escape.

Leopoldo, his brow furrowed in concentration, meticulously adjusted a series of tiny, interlocking gears. His fingers, stained with grease and the strange, iridescent sap of some Osvaldian flora, moved with a surgeon’s precision. He muttered to himself, a low, almost inaudible stream of calculations and hypotheses. Around him, the others sought refuge from the oppressive heat, their faces etched with a weariness that went beyond mere physical exhaustion.

Alterra, her gaze fixed on the shimmering horizon, her hands clasped tightly, whispered a prayer. Her faith, a beacon in the encroaching despair, was their fragile shield. Beside her, Sacagawea, her quiet strength a constant reassurance, sharpened a crude spearhead with a smooth, dark stone. Her eyes, ever watchful, scanned their surroundings, cataloging every rustle, every shift in the wind.
