The air in Marrakesh thrummed with a thousand different sounds, a symphony of bartering voices, the clatter of metal on metal, and the distant, haunting call to prayer. Omar stepped out of the stifling embrace of the airport, his senses immediately assaulted by a kaleidoscope of colour and scent. The ochre walls of the medina, visible in the distance, seemed to shimmer under the fierce Moroccan sun. This was it. This was the real beginning, he thought, a thrill coursing through him. He clutched his worn backpack, the weight of it a comforting presence, a tangible reminder of the journey he had so eagerly begun.

The alley looked more like a rabbit warren, shadowed and winding, the scent of spices and something vaguely animalistic thick in the air. He paid the driver, a pang of unease fluttering in his stomach. He pulled out his phone, hoping to find a map, but the signal was stubbornly absent. “No problem,” he muttered to himself, trying to channel the optimism that usually served him so well. “Adventure, right?”
