Sharing the Wisdom
Back home, Leo didn't mourn his lost kite. Instead, he shared his adventure with his family, explaining what he had learned about wanting versus needing and the joy of simple discoveries.
The front door creaked open, a familiar sound that usually meant the end of an adventure, the signal to hang up my boots and recount the day's triumphs. But today, the creak felt different, softer, like a whispered secret. I stepped inside, not with the usual flurry of excitement, but with a quiet stillness that surprised even me. Mom looked up from the kitchen table, a half-peeled potato in her hand, her brow furrowed slightly. "Leo? You're back. Where's your kite?"
I smiled, a genuine, unforced smile that reached my eyes. "It’s gone, Mom."
Her hand paused, the potato slipping from her grasp and rolling across the linoleum. "Gone? What do you mean, gone? Did it break? Did it get tangled?" Her voice was a mix of concern and a mother's inherent disbelief.
