Sarah felt the weight of secrecy pressing down on her, a tangible thing that settled in the pit of her stomach and made her breath catch in her throat. The hushed tones of their meetings, held in the dim glow of her living room after the children were asleep, were a stark contrast to the boisterous hymns and open fellowship that usually filled the church halls. But this was a different kind of gathering, a clandestine operation born of necessity and fueled by a fierce loyalty to a man they knew was being wronged.
