A Turtle's Resilience
Tayler, safe but disheartened, emerges from his shell. He is steady and loyal, determined to find Jasmyn He knows their friendship is worth fighting for.
The water had receded, leaving behind a landscape that was both familiar and utterly strange. Tom the turtle, usually so steady and sure, peeked one eye out from beneath the protective dome of his shell. His heart, a small, slow drum, beat with a mixture of relief and a deep, hollow ache. He was safe. His shell, his trusty, sturdy shell, had been his shield against the roaring wind and the lashing rain. But where was Jasmyn? The meadow, once a vibrant tapestry of greens and golds, was now a muddy, tattered mess. The little patch of clover where he and Jasmyn had spent countless afternoons basking in the sun was gone, swallowed by the swirling currents.
A shiver, not of cold but of loneliness, traced its way down his spine. He pushed himself out from his sheltered spot, his legs feeling heavy and a little shaky. The air smelled damp and earthy, a scent that usually filled him with a sense of home, but today it only amplified his loss. He missed Jasmyn’s cheerful chirps, the way her tiny wings would flutter with excitement when she discovered a particularly juicy dewdrop. He missed her bright, optimistic spirit that always managed to lift his own.
"Jasmyn?" he called out, his voice a low rumble that seemed to get lost in the vast, sodden emptiness. Only the drip, drip, drip of water from the remaining leaves answered him. He felt a pang of guilt, a heavy weight settling in his chest. Had he been strong enough? Had he done enough to protect their home? His slowness, which he
