The sun dappled through the new leaves, casting dancing shadows on the soft earth. Lily, her scarlet shell gleaming, nestled close to Tom, his steady green shell a comforting presence beside her. Their new home, a cozy hollow beneath the roots of a grand old oak, felt more perfect than any they had ever known. It wasn’t just the sturdy walls of woven grass and moss, or the soft bed of fallen petals; it was the feeling of safety, of belonging, that bloomed within them.

Lily stretched her wings, a delicate shimmer of iridescent blue. “It’s so beautiful here, Tom,” she chirped, her voice full of a quiet joy. “Even more beautiful than our old meadow.”

Tom blinked his kind eyes, a slow, thoughtful smile spreading across his snout. “It is, Lily. And it’s ours. We made it ours.” He nudged her gently with his head. “Remember how scared we were, when the storm… when everything was gone?”
