The Root of Shadows
Mikutis, Jonas, Bobutė, Fox, and Laima descend into the crack beneath the farm, following the ancient voice. They discover a vast underground cavern with a pulsing dark root that feeds on forgotten fears. Mikutis uses his dream-light to calm the root, but a new shadow emerges from the earth's heart, demanding a deeper sacrifice.
The crack in the earth pulsed like a slow, dark heartbeat. Mikutis stood at its edge, the silver whisker from the star cat tucked safely in his fur. The voice from below had faded, but its echo lingered in the air, heavy and ancient.
"We go together," Bobutė said, her amber eyes steady. "The Keeper of Roots warned of a balance between sky and earth. If we healed one, we must heal the other."
Fox sniffed the air. "The smell is familiar, but wrong. Like the well, but mixed with something sour."
