Chapter 16: The Star Whisper
Mikutis and Jonas rest at the tower after returning from the watcher's home. The star cat reveals the new silver light on the eastern hill is an ancient signal from a forgotten guardian. They decide to investigate, meeting Karvė Marija along the way, who gives a confused clue. At the hill they discover a shimmering archway, and a voice calls Mikutis by name, setting up a new mystery.
Mikutis sat up slowly, his fur still tingling from the cold of the watcher's home. The grass beneath him was damp with dew, and the moon hung fat and silver overhead. Beside him, Jonas rubbed his eyes and let out a long yawn.
“Are we really back?” Jonas asked, his voice groggy.
“We are,” said the star cat, standing a few paces away. Its staff glowed with a steady, warm light, and its eyes were calm. “The watcher has crossed through the gate and returned to its own place among the stars. You have done what few could.”
