The air in the school hallway hummed with the usual afternoon cacophony – the squeak of sneakers on linoleum, the murmur of retreating conversations, the distant clang of a locker door. But for Kyle and Lucca, the familiar soundtrack had taken on a new resonance. Every rustle of paper, every dropped pencil, every whispered secret now felt like a potential clue, a breadcrumb waiting to be discovered. Their latest case, the perplexing disappearance of Leo’s prized, limited-edition superhero lunchbox, had led them on a winding path, one that was proving far more intricate than Samira’s misplaced locket had been.
“He said he left it right by his locker, right after third period,” Lucca recounted, his brow furrowed in concentration as they navigated the crowded corridor. “And then, poof! Gone.”
Kyle, ever the observer, scanned the floor as they walked. He’d developed a sixth sense for the overlooked, a knack for spotting the anomaly in the mundane. “The thing is, Leo’s not exactly the type to forget something like that. He practically sleeps with that lunchbox.”
