Stuck on the locket case, Kyle and Lucca seek advice from their faculty advisor, Ms. Gable. She offers subtle wisdom, encouraging them to look beyond the obvious and trust their instincts.
The afternoon sun, usually a cheerful companion, felt a little dimmer as Kyle and Lucca slumped onto the worn cushions of Ms. Gable’s office. The air, typically thick with the comforting scent of old books and chalk dust, now seemed to hum with their frustration. Samira’s locket, a small, silver heart etched with a delicate vine, had vanished from her gym locker three days ago, and the Casewhill Detectives had hit a wall harder than a rogue dodgeball.
“It’s like it just… evaporated, Kyle,” Lucca sighed, running a hand through his already tousled hair. He fiddled with the edge of a loose thread on his backpack, his usual effervescence replaced by a weary slump. “We’ve searched the locker room a dozen times. We’ve re-interviewed everyone who might have been nearby. Nothing.”
Kyle nodded, his brow furrowed in concentration. He traced the pattern of the wood grain on Ms. Gable’s desk with a fingertip. “We’ve considered every possibility. Someone snagged it during gym class. Someone found it and kept it. Someone deliberately took it. But there’s no sign of forced entry on the locker, no witnesses, and no one’s admitting to anything.” He felt a familiar prickle of worry, the secret fear that he wasn’t as good at this as he wanted to be, that he was letting Samira down.
