The Case of the Vanishing Lunchbox, their most recent endeavor, had unraveled not with a bang, but with a whimper, a whisper of childish mischief. Lucca, perched on the edge of the table, bounced his leg with an energy that seemed to vibrate through the worn linoleum.
“So, that’s it?” Lucca asked, his voice a mixture of anticlimax and lingering excitement. “Kevin just… took it because he thought it was funny?”
Kyle nodded, recalling the sheepish grin on Kevin’s face when confronted. The story, as it turned out, was far less sinister than they had imagined. Kevin, in a moment of impulsive silliness, had swiped Liam’s bright blue lunchbox during morning assembly, intending to return it before anyone noticed. Kevin, paralyzed by a mixture of guilt and fear of getting in trouble, had simply stashed the lunchbox in the lost and found, hoping the whole thing would blow over.
