The Awakening
The alien ship begins to stir, its dormant systems reactivating, responding to the presence of the Stardust crew. The trap is sprung.
The hum of the Stardust’s life support was a familiar lullaby, a constant reassurance against the crushing silence of the void. But within the cavernous, derelict alien vessel, that lullaby seemed to be fading, replaced by a subtle, unsettling symphony of awakening. Captain Eva Rostova stood on the Stardust’s bridge, her gaze fixed on the main viewscreen, which displayed a dizzying array of alien architecture bathed in the Stardust’s own floodlights. The colossal ship, once a tomb, was beginning to exhale.
It started with a faint tremor, a vibration that ran through the Stardust’s hull like a shiver. Jian Li, ever at his engineering console, tapped a readout. "Captain, minor hull stress. Nothing to worry about, but… it’s originating from the alien ship."
Dr. Aris Thorne, his eyes alight with something akin to feverish excitement, leaned closer to his own console. "Fascinating! Their power conduits are showing residual energy signatures. They’re not entirely dead, you see. Merely dormant."
