The hum of the Stardust, once a comforting lullaby of deep space, had devolved into a frantic, uneven cough. Red emergency lights pulsed, casting long, distorted shadows across the bridge, painting Captain Eva Rostova’s face in a grim, flickering crimson. Alarms blared, a cacophony of mechanical distress that clawed at her nerves. Commander Jian Li, his brow furrowed in concentration, worked furiously at his console, his fingers a blur across the controls.

“Report, Jian!” Eva’s voice was tight, strained, betraying none of the icy dread that was beginning to coil in her stomach. She gripped the arms of her command chair, knuckles white.

“Primary power coupling is failing, Captain. It’s cascading through the secondary systems. Life support is fluctuating, and the warp core… it’s unstable. We’re bleeding energy, and fast.” Jian’s voice was a low rumble, but the urgency was unmistakable. He didn’t look up, his entire focus on the impossible task of keeping their ship from tearing itself apart. “The alien tech… it’s interfering with our core functions. It’s like a parasitic drain, but on a quantum level.”
