The hum of the Stardust’s life support systems, once a comforting lullaby, now felt like a strained whisper in the vast silence of the alien vessel. Captain Rostova stood before the holographic projection of the newly deciphered glyphs, her brow furrowed. Dr. Thorne, his eyes alight with an almost feverish intensity, pointed a slender finger at a particularly complex sequence.

“It’s not a record of their history, Captain,” Thorne explained, his voice a low thrum against the quiet. “It’s a… a warning. A testament to their downfall.”

Commander Li, his usual calm replaced by a grim stillness, watched the flickering images with a growing knot of unease in his stomach. Sergeant Hanson stood a little apart, her hand resting almost unconsciously on the holster of her sidearm, her gaze sweeping the cavernous chamber as if expecting something to materialize from the shadows.
