Chapter 7
Unfurling the Wings
Confidence blossoms. The narrator embraces their unique style, akin to the uninhibited flight of a hawk. The fear of the Skeptical Echo begins to recede.
The forest floor, once a place of hesitant steps and hushed breaths, now felt like a familiar pathway. The weight of doubt, that persistent shadow that had clung to me like damp moss, seemed to be lifting. It wasn’t gone entirely, not yet, but it no longer dictated my every move. Instead, a lightness had taken root, a sensation akin to the first unfurling of wings after a long, still winter.
I remembered the hawk I’d seen just yesterday, circling high above the meadow. Its flight wasn't a struggle; it was a dance. Each sweep of its wings was deliberate, powerful, yet utterly fluid. It didn’t question its right to the sky, didn’t apologize for its keen eyesight or its sharp talons. It simply *was*, a perfect expression of its wild, untamed nature. And in that moment, watching its effortless ascent, something shifted within me. Why should my voice, my words, be any different? Why should I apologize for the unique cadence of my thoughts, the peculiar slant of my vision?
The Skeptical Echo, that insidious whisper that had hounded my every creative impulse, seemed to be losing its grip. Its pronouncements of inadequacy, its sneering reminders of all the more talented voices out there, were becoming muffled, distant. It was like trying to hear a shout in the middle of a roaring waterfall; the sheer force of my own burgeoning desire to create was drowning it out.
