Penny had just finished recounting her latest delightful encounter with Leo – the one where he’d confessed his passion for collecting antique board games, a revelation that had sent Penny’s heart into a dizzying waltz of pure, unadulterated glee. She’d ended the story with a sigh that was more flutter than exhalation, a testament to the sheer, giddy wonder of it all.
“And then,” Penny had finished, her eyes sparkling like freshly polished silverware, “he showed me his complete set of ‘The Game of Life’ from 1960. The original box! Chloe, it was… it was perfect.”
Chloe, who was currently engaged in a wrestling match with a particularly stubborn knot in her own hair, snorted. “Perfect? Penny, darling, let’s recall the last time you declared something ‘perfect.’ Remember Bartholomew ‘Barty’ Butterfield? The man who communicated exclusively through interpretive dance and insisted on paying for your single cup of Earl Grey with a handful of loose change he’d meticulously sorted from his pockets?”
