Leo invites Penny to a game night with his friends, a quirky event filled with strategy and laughter, offering Penny a glimpse into his social circle.
The invitation arrived via a carrier pigeon, or at least, that’s how Penny imagined it. Leo had casually mentioned a “game night” with his friends, and her internal monologue had immediately spiraled into a frantic montage of every awkward social gathering she’d ever endured. Would there be competitive charades? A sudden, inexplicable urge for everyone to reveal their deepest, darkest secrets? Or worse, a mandatory interpretive dance session? She’d spent the better part of the day practicing her most serene, approachable smile in the bathroom mirror, only to have it morph into a rictus of terror at the thought of meeting Leo’s entire social universe.
Chloe, ever the pragmatist, had tried to soothe her. “Penny, darling, it’s a game night. Not an audition for a cult. Just be yourself.”
“But what if ‘myself’ is too much?” Penny had wailed, gesturing wildly with a spatula. “What if my ‘myself’ accidentally spills a drink on his most prized vintage board game? What if my ‘myself’ develops an uncontrollable urge to explain the socio-economic implications of Monopoly to a captive audience?”
