I grew up in the heart of Alberton, Gauteng. The world was big, mine were small, from my bedroom to the house, garden full of fruit and flowers. It was new, it was a mystery and it was me I see the wild strawberries and banana trees in the garden. I see a foundation with a scene, is it the starting point, or the end, maybe its my portal, to the within. Where all my answers will be found.

Chapters

  1. 1Chapter 1The author recalls growing up in Alberton, Gauteng, in a small world centered on a facebrick house with a garden of wild strawberries and banana trees. The foundation of the house becomes a portal to memory, where the smell of love and possibilities mingles with God's grace. The chapter ends with the author standing at the foundation, asking if it's a starting point or an end.
  2. 2Chapter 2The author reflects on how childhood memories come as fragmented images and emotions, each one a puzzle piece of a life that never quite fit. The facebrick house, the garden, the wild strawberries, and the banana trees become anchors in the search for understanding. The chapter explores the feeling of being different, of experiencing life through emotions and flashes, and the slow, patient work of gathering the pieces until the door from wonder to knowing might finally open.
  3. 3Chapter 3The narrator recalls her father tending the flowers inside the walls that divide houses, and reflects on neighbors as separate stories rooted in the same earth. She watches children growing like fruit on branches, gazes at the blue sky full of breath and hope, and sees birds as messengers carrying meaning from house to house. The foundation remains a silent anchor, and she begins to sense that the answers she seeks are woven into the garden, the walls, and the shared sky above Alberton.
