Elara traced the rim of her chipped mug, the lukewarm liquid doing little to soothe the tremor in her hands. Across from her, Liam’s gaze was steady, a beacon of calm in the storm that had become her life. The evidence was gathered, the trap sprung, but the aftermath still felt precarious, like walking on eggshells over a precipice.

“He’s gone,” Liam said, his voice low, a subtle inflection of relief weaving through it. “The authorities have him. It’s…over.”

Elara nodded, a weak smile touching her lips. It was over. Julian Thorne, the architect of her fear and manipulation, was finally facing his reckoning. The gilded cage had been broken, not by force, but by truth. Yet, the echoes of his possessiveness, the phantom weight of his gaze, still lingered, a shadow clinging to the edges of her newfound freedom.
