Number 1: Standing Tall

The sunbeam, warm and golden, crept across the page, illuminating the very first number. It stood there, proud and straight, like a tiny soldier ready for duty. "Hello there!" a friendly voice chirped, and a little scribble of a character, no bigger than a pencil eraser, bounced into view. He had bright, curious eyes and a smile that promised fun. "Welcome, little writer! Today, we begin a brand-new adventure, a counting adventure! And our very first friend is this magnificent number: one!"

The little guide, whose name was Pip, pointed a cheerful finger at the numeral. "See how it stands so tall and straight? It’s like a tall, tall tree, reaching for the sky! Or perhaps a rocket, ready to blast off into space!" Pip wiggled his fingers excitedly. "To draw a number one, all you need is a super-duper straight line. Can you do it? I bet you can!"

Pip then hopped over to a dotted outline of the number one, waiting patiently on the page. "Look! It’s like a secret path, just waiting for your pencil to follow. Let’s trace it together, shall we?" Pip held out his tiny hand, as if offering a helping hand. "Imagine you are drawing a tall, tall ladder, climbing all the way up to the clouds. Start at the very top, and slide your pencil straight down, down, down, all the way to the bottom. Whoosh!"
