Morning light crept through the curtains, soft and golden, warming the edge of the bed. I lay still for a moment, listening to the gentle rhythm of Collin's breathing beside me. He was still asleep, his face relaxed, the lines of worry smoothed away by rest. I watched him, remembering the man I had fallen in love with, the one who had held my hand on the porch steps and whispered dreams into the night. That man was still here, beneath the weight of the world we had let press in.

I slipped out of bed and padded to the kitchen. The floorboards creaked under my feet, a familiar sound that grounded me. I put the kettle on, the click of the stove igniting a small flame. While the water heated, I looked out the window at the garden. The morning glories were opening, their purple petals reaching for the sun. A hummingbird hovered near the feeder, its wings a blur of motion. Everything felt new, fresh, as if the night had washed away the dust of old hurts.

The kettle whistled. I poured water over a tea bag and watched the steam rise. The scent of chamomile filled the kitchen, warm and soothing. I wrapped my hands around the mug, letting the heat seep into my palms. The decision I had made in the dark hours was still with me, solid and bright. I wanted another child. Not to fix what was broken, but to build something stronger together.
