I will always remember to be there for who was there for me and your life doesn't end where people want it to end, but where you choose to let it end. No one defines your future but you, so please don't forget where your coming from and going to. So brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts, grandfathers and grandmothers, cousins, friends and family, never you reach this far and give up, just be who you are and who you want to be
The morning light crept through the curtains like a slow, golden tide, spilling across the rumpled sheets and pooling on the pillow beside me. I lay there, still half-floating in the haze of sleep, when I felt it—a small, warm hand pressed against my cheek. Our son. He had climbed into our bed sometime in the small hours, as he always did, burrowing his way between us like a little mole seeking warmth and safety. His father's arm was draped over us both, a protective arc, a shelter made of flesh and bone and quiet devotion. For a moment, I let myself believe nothing could ever touch us.
But the world has a way of reminding you.
I turned my head slightly, watching my son's chest rise and fall beneath his rumpled pajama shirt. His lips were parted, his eyelashes dark crescents against his round cheeks. He had his father's nose—that straight, no-nonsense nose—and my stubborn chin, the one that had gotten me through more battles than I cared to count. He was a living mosaic of two people who had once been strangers, then lovers, then partners in a journey that nobody believed we could survive. And here he was, breathing softly, proof that we had.
