The fluorescent lights of the auditorium hummed a sickly yellow, casting a pall over the otherwise vibrant set pieces for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Laura clutched her script, the paper crinkling nervously in her clammy hands. She was playing Helena, a role that, in any other circumstance, would have filled her with a giddy, fluttery excitement.
