Banishing the Shadow
Through their combined efforts and a ritual or act of pure love, Salsa and Emma manage to banish Melissa, forcing the entity to retreat from their world.
The air in Emma’s room had grown thick and heavy, a suffocating blanket woven from shadows and unspoken fears. Salsa stood by the doorway, her heart a frantic drum against her ribs, watching Emma. Her daughter, once so bright and full of life, now huddled on the floor, her small frame trembling as she stared at the corner of the room. It was the corner where Melissa always appeared, where the darkness seemed to coalesce into that impossibly tall, inky form.
“She’s… she’s not listening anymore, Mama,” Emma whispered, her voice barely a thread of sound. “She just… watches.”
Salsa’s gaze followed Emma’s, her own fear a cold knot in her stomach. Melissa hadn’t spoken in days. No more whispered promises, no more strange, glittering gifts. Just a silent, looming presence that radiated a palpable chill. The toys Melissa had conjured, once so wondrous, now lay discarded, their surfaces dulled, their magic seemingly leached away, leaving behind an unsettling emptiness. A porcelain doll with eyes that seemed to follow Salsa around the room, a music box that played a discordant, mournful tune even when closed, a kaleidoscope that showed only swirling, menacing patterns.
