Chapter 13
Melissa's True Face
Melissa fully reveals her terrifying, monstrous form. The facade crumbles, showing the entity's true, sinister intentions as it unleashes its power against them.
The air in Emma’s room had grown thick, heavy like a blanket woven from shadows and unspoken dread. It clung to Salsa’s skin, a clammy reminder of the creeping unease that had settled over their home like a persistent fog. Melissa, once a whisper of charcoal and starlight, a shadowy friend who brought surprisingly shiny trinkets, was no longer content with subtle shifts. Tonight, the transformation was stark, terrifying, and undeniable.
Emma, usually nestled deep in her bed, was perched on the edge, her small hands clutching the worn teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles, as if he were a shield. She had come to check on Emma, a routine that had become more of a vigil in recent weeks, but what she found was far from routine.
The darkness in that corner was no longer just a lack of light. It was coalescing, deepening, taking on a shape that made Salsa’s breath catch in her throat. It wasn't the tall, slender figure Emma had described. This was something else. The darkness writhed, stretching and contorting, like ink spilled into water, but alive. It grew, not just upwards, but outwards, tendrils of shadow reaching, probing, tasting the air. A low hum, like the vibration of a thousand trapped insects, began to emanate from it, pressing against Salsa’s ears.
