The air in the small cottage, usually thick with the comforting scent of drying herbs and woodsmoke, felt strangely charged. Elara sat at the worn oak table, the ancient map spread before her, its faded lines a puzzle she was slowly, painstakingly, beginning to unravel. Outside, the setting sun cast long, dancing shadows across the farm, painting the familiar fields in hues of orange and purple. The fading light caught the gold in his hair, making him look like a figure from one of the old tales.
