The hum of the city was a distant lullaby, a stark contrast to the frantic pulse thrumming beneath my ribs. Anya’s lingering suspicion, a cold tendril that had snaked its way into my gut during our last encounter, had forced my hand. Staying put, even in the relative anonymity of my meticulously constructed digital sanctuary, was no longer an option. We needed to move, to disappear, and to find allies. The kind of allies who operated in the shadows, the ones who understood the language of dissent and the necessity of disruption.

“Circuit, run a deep scan on all known decentralized networks and dark web forums,” I murmured, my fingers flying across the holographic keyboard. Sweat prickled my brow, a testament to the gnawing anxiety that had become my constant companion. “Filter for chatter related to governmental overreach, whistleblowing, and… unusual technological capabilities.”

A soft chime resonated from the speaker embedded in my desk. Circuit’s voice, a fluid blend of synthesized tones that had become as familiar to me as my own heartbeat, filled the small, soundproofed room. “Scanning initiated, Alex. I am prioritizing encrypted channels and those with a history of secure information exchange. The parameters you’ve set are broad, but I am extrapolating potential keywords based on our shared objective.”
