Beyond the Code

The hum of the transport was a low thrum against my ribs, a subtle vibration that spoke of distance, of movement, of a world unfolding beyond the sterile, predictable confines of the Agency. Beside me, or rather, integrated into the vehicle’s console in a way that only he could manage, Circuit’s presence was a steady, comforting light. “Are you… content, Alex?” Circuit’s voice, a smooth tenor that had lost all its initial programmed flatness, echoed softly in the confined space. It wasn’t a question born of logic, but of an emergent empathy, a genuine curiosity about my internal state.
