Jon, having narrowly escaped the clutches of a particularly enthusiastic Morris dancer who’d mistaken him for a spirited Maypole, found himself at the edge of a forest that seemed to hum with an unnatural silence. The usual chirping of birds was absent, replaced by a low, resonant thrum that vibrated not in his ears, but in his very bones. He’d been following what he thought was a trail of glitter – a sure sign, in his limited experience, of magical artifacts – but it had led him to this peculiar, hushed glade.
