Clever Tactics
Zeus howls to create a distraction, while Yaz makes herself appear as a giant, terrifying shadow. The scared burglars flee, only to find Zeus ready to chase them away, securing the budgies.
The air thrummed with anticipation, a quiet hum that Zeus could feel in his very bones. Night had draped its velvet cloak over the land, muffling the usual farm sounds and cloaking the world in shadows. Beside him, Yaz, the wise wood owl, perched on a low-hanging branch, her large, luminous eyes scanning the dark. Zeus’s own ears twitched, catching the faintest rustle of leaves, the distant chirp of a cricket, the thud of his own heart against his ribs. They were ready.
"Remember the plan, young pup," Yaz’s voice, a soft whisper in the darkness, tickled Zeus's ear. "Distraction first, then the scare. And no matter what, wait for my signal."
Zeus nodded, a surge of excitement making his tail give a little involuntary thump against the damp earth. He’d bitten the tyres of the burglars’ truck, leaving them looking like sad, deflated pancakes. That part had been pure Zeus, a burst of instinct and a satisfying *POP! POP! POP!* Now came the more strategic, the more… owl-guided part.
