The scent of lavender and old paper always seemed to cling to her mother’s favorite armchair, a gentle, familiar perfume that Sarah had tried, for weeks, to capture in her own small apartment. She’d bought lavender sachets, even a new book of classic poetry, hoping to conjure a ghost of that comforting presence. But the armchair, now draped in a pale sheet, remained stubbornly empty. Today, however, something shifted. She looked at the armchair, not with the hollow ache of absence, but with a flicker of recognition. It’s about tenderness, you see.”
