Now, a new storm was brewing, one that had swept across the globe, leaving fear and uncertainty in its wake. The pandemic. It had crept into every corner of life, and for him, it had found a vulnerability he hadn't known existed.
He remembered the hushed voices, the worried glances exchanged between his mother and Patrice. They’d been there, always, when the world felt too big or too dangerous. This time, it was a medical procedure, a matter of his heart, weakened by a double dose of the virus that had brought the world to its knees. The doctors spoke in hushed tones, their words a foreign language laced with medical jargon. Stents, they said, were the plan. But then came the pause, the shift in their expressions, the grim realization that the path forward was not so simple.
"His veins are too small," the surgeon had explained, his voice a low rumble that seemed to echo in the sterile room. He’d looked from his mother to Patrice, their faces etched with a familiar blend of concern and quiet strength. "We can't place the stents as planned. His heart… it’s weak. We need to be very careful."
