Chapter 18
The Coven's Acceptance
Lara's display of power, now controlled and protective, earns her the grudging respect and eventual acceptance of the coven, including Maeve.
The air in the clearing still hummed with the volatile energy that had erupted from Lara, a wild symphony of light and shadow that had, moments before, threatened to tear the ancient trees asunder. Now, however, a different kind of energy pulsed – one of awe, of dawning comprehension, and a hesitant, fragile peace. The tendrils of dark magic, which had writhed and coiled with malicious intent, had been met not with brute force, but with a swirling vortex of Lara’s own power, shaped and guided, a protective shield woven from the very essence of her untamed spirit.
Lyra stood a few paces away, her gaze fixed on Lara, an unreadable expression etched onto her usually stoic features. The raw power Lara had unleashed was unlike anything the coven had witnessed, a tempestuous force that defied Lyra's carefully cultivated order. Yet, it had also been the force that had repelled the encroaching darkness, a visceral defense that had saved them all. The conflict warring within Lyra was palpable, a silent battle between her duty to maintain balance and the undeniable pull she felt towards the witch who wielded such potent, chaotic magic.
Around them, the coven members stirred. Maeve, her face pale and her eyes wide, was the first to break the stunned silence. She had been the most vocal in her distrust, her fear of Lara’s uncontrolled magic a constant, sharp edge. But seeing that same magic, moments ago a harbinger of destruction, now a beacon of protection, had clearly shaken her to her core.
